The Clock / Method column shows the scientific basis. Epigenetic clocks (OMICmAge, PhenoAge, DunedinPACE, GrimAge) rest on DNA methylation profiles. GlycanAge uses IgG glycans (an inflammation proxy). InsideTracker uses classic lab markers with a proprietary scoring algorithm.
Dried blood (fingerstick) is the de facto standard: convenient, mailable, robust during shipping. The kit arrives, you prick your finger, drop blood on a card, drop the prepaid envelope in a mailbox. No clinic visit needed.
Saliva is even easier (spit into a tube), but methodologically slightly less precise for DNA methylation, because cell-type composition in saliva varies more. Some clocks are explicitly calibrated for saliva samples.
Buccal swab (cheek-cell scrape) is used for telomere tests. Methodologically simple, but telomere-length measurement alone has lower information value than a DNA methylation clock.
Venous blood requires a clinic visit and is the prerequisite for InsideTracker Ultimate and similar functional panels.
DNA methylation analyses realistically take 4 – 8 weeks from sample shipment to final report. Shorter promises (2 weeks) usually only apply within the US. International customers should plan for 4 – 6 weeks. GlycanAge is faster at 3 – 4 weeks. InsideTracker and Omega-3 index return results within 1 – 2 weeks — the technology gap shows clearly.
One-time benchmark: myDNAge (PhenoAge, $229) or a buccal telomere test ($149) are affordable entry points.
Lifestyle tracking with trajectory: TruAge PACE ($229) or GlycanAge ($299), ideally every 6 months. A trajectory across 2 – 4 measurements becomes more meaningful than any single result.
Maximum granularity: TruAge Complete ($499) including OMICmAge + DunedinPACE + GrimAge — the most complete view, but also the most expensive.
Combined lab panel: InsideTracker Ultimate ($349) covers 43 classic markers and adds InnerAge on top. Anyone who already gets a yearly blood panel gets noticeably more breadth here than any pure BioAge test offers — but less cellular precision.
